flower power

I enjoy taking pictures of flora. Unlike small children, they are not a constant blur of motion (Sir I.), do not scowl and hide their faces behind their hair if you try to take a picture of them (Miss M.), and are not constantly trying to attack your camera (the Baron). I snapped these shots on a recent walk around town:

Daylily. They are so pretty and they grow around our yard without me having to do anything to help them along (besides keep the hooligans away).

Small purple flowers (anyone know what these are?)

Small white flowers. I’ve narrowed this down to Queen Anne’s Lace (not as full as most of the Queen Anne’s Lace I’ve seen) or water hemlock (highly poisonous, highly unlikley, since this was taken by a roadside, not near a stream). Or is it yarrow? *throws up hands*. Whatever it is, nobody touched it, nobody ate it. I was the only one to stop to take a shot.

And, here’s a daisy (or is it an aster??) that we saw out on a hike through the woods. I like this picture, even though it looks like the flower is suspended in midair.

Anyone else care to share flower pictures from their current habitats?

    Beautiful pictures!! I love them!

Definitely Queen Anne’s Lace/Wild Carrot, not Yarrow. Yarrow’s not so lace-like. The four-petal lavender ones look like Dame’s Rocket. You might want to look it up and see if the rest of the plant matches besides the flower. 4-petal flowers are not so common as 5-petal. And the bottom one is a daisy. 😀

You know, it’s the wrong season down here right now for flowers, other than the domestic varieties and the ever present mustard. Too bad I still don’t live in the Sierras — I used to love going out to look at the flowers there. There were so many varieties.

Deb, I think you might be right about the dame’s rocket. Apparently, you can tell it apart from phlox because it has four petals instead of five (someone else had suggested phlox). Thanks!

Jo, this is not a deep and meaningful post, so your comment is spot-on. I just wanted to put up something pretty. Liven this place up a bit. 😀

What do you think about me using one of these pictures as a header for the blog’s new look? Has no relationship to writing. but hey. flowers are pretty and I own the copyright to these pictures.

I do believe the purple flower above is dames rocket not sure but it looks allot like it. Flax is lower to the ground, if this plant is tall it’s most likely Dames rocket.
