friday fun: the hats you wear

My brain is fried. Today I: schooled a kid, managed a battle campaign against the playdough crumbs all over the floor of the kids’ bedroom, helped lead an art program at the library in which over a dozen kids did this awesome space and rocket collage, drove a lot, went to my church’s small group. Agenda for this evening: blog, revise, veg (ha!).

All of you probably know I write. You might have heard me mention “homeschooling” and “driving kids around”. You may even know I take piano lessons, and love it. You may not have known that I enjoy doing art with my kids, and have made some forays into doing art with other people’s kids. Yet, these are just a few of the hats I wear. I suspect you all wear lots of hats as well (fedoras, berets, tricorns…. okay, I couldn’t resist the joke!).

In the comments, tell me about something you do that is not writing fiction. Maybe your day job is Python Handler. Maybe you collect fine china. Maybe you volunteer at a soup kitchen.

What is one of the more unusual hats you wear?

Artist + mom | school volunteer | photographer | financial analyst. I wear a baseball cap to crunch numbers, a helmet to volunteer, an akubra to photograph and a cowgirl hat the rest of the day. ~ Tammy

By day, I process dental insurance claims, and believe it or not, we actually pay more claims than we deny. Such a shocker. That was unusual for me, to learn that insurers really aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be. We do what we say we’ll do and we try not to let fraud get through and we actually do PAY claims. 87% of every premium dollar (the entire company, including medical) goes to that.

I’d say that’s my most unusual hat. At least, it always feels that way to me. πŸ˜€

    Megs,

I never believed that insurance companies are the Ultimate Evil. I’ve never had any issues with ours (though there was the time someone input a wrong code—psych ward instead of maternity ward!).

    Tammy,

Thanks for stopping by! Your blog is such an inspiration. πŸ™‚

That’s so nice. :sighs with relief: Whenever I tell people what I do online, they really seem to think insurance is to blame for everything (esp. w/all this health insurance reform). And after hearing about stuff like that BEFORE I went to work for Anthem, it was really weird to find out how it really works and all that.
