sunday progress update

40 out of 64 scenes. Yeah, I guess all my scenes-smushing was offset by extra scenes or something. Still, almost two-thirds of the way there is nothing to be sneezed at!

The last 4 or 5 scenes have been hard. It’s not that they’re total rewrites (I’ve been doing that since scene 2 :P); it’s that they’re replacing passages that I particularly like. Those included spot-on description, sparkling dialog and one plot twist I really enjoyed. I’m having a hard time letting those go, even though they don’t fit my current story arc.

How’s your progress?

Nada. :bemoans: I did the whole plant butt in chair and type something, and all I did was promptly delete all the shudderingly awful prose I typed. πŸ™

      It happens sometimes. πŸ™

Like for instance, right now, I just feel bad. Blue. Down in the dumps. No real reason why. Just inhabiting a cloud of funk. *throws hands up in the air*

That’s usually a sign for me to get off the computer and go read a book or watch a movie. I hear and obey!

Oh how well I know the foggy confines of the Cloud of Funk!

Well, watching a movie helped. It was The Legend of Zorro. Mostly silly, but escapist. Just the thing I needed (though at one point I exclaimed “Dan Brown wrote the script!”). It amazes me Hollywood regularly puts out these multimillion movies with such monstrous plot holes. A project worked on by hundreds of people can’t get its narrative act together, but a solitary writer like me is supposed to write an internally consistent and logical story? *shakes head*

I forced myself to get 316 words yesterday, giving me 1k on the second to last chapter of book 1. Something that is better than nothing, but chapter rewrite in my future? Check.

Yep! Been there, done that. In fact my rewrites need rewrites! *headdesk*

        What’s this!?

I thought that with HTRYN, you’d never need to rewrite again?! πŸ˜›

It means that I’ll only rewrite 5x as opposed to 10x. *grin*

Woo! I love seeing your progress. I’ve finally gotten moving on lesson 7, where I’ve been stuck for literally months. Slow progress, but progress!
