Wow. :awed at total numbers: I still WOULD like to write one of those massive lovely books that goes over 30,000 words (preferably about three times that), but at least, I get off on the excuse that it’s juvenile fiction. :grins:

And that was to say: Awesome progress! Looks lovely. And have I mentioned lately I love Kai?

*grin* I’d like to write something novella-length one of these days. I just can’t think that short–yet.

Though I will also admit: it used to be awful for me trying to think of and write short stories. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it though. πŸ™‚ I remember when I was going to write one a month. :groans: Did NOT happen. But now, I’ve got a handful of short stories written and a goal to crank out quite a few more (and more importantly, the confidence that I can do it).

I think it’s like everything else: you have to practice at it. And sometimes learn by trial and error. I didn’t get it until I’d written probably halfway through a dozen false attempts and then finally finished one. (That one may never see the light of day. We’ll see, but I doubt it.) Only after that and months and months of struggle did I get ONE short story written that really worked and wasn’t flash or under 1200 words. (I swear, flash fiction is not at ALL the same as short stories.) But that one flowed out faster than I could’ve imagined and probably will see the light of day.

It’s one of those things I think has to be worth it to you. Changing your natural writing length (if you don’t think in multiple lengths, you’re in trouble) is WORK.

But I’ll also say this: I’m sure you can do it. πŸ™‚

I think experimenting with different lengths will be a good writing stretch for me. πŸ™‚ I still find short stories HARD. I haven’t had any work out for me for over a year (granted, I haven’t done much with them for a while, either).

I have one story that might work at novella length, come to think if it. I’ll have to consider this…
